Service Resilience for the Cloud Generation
As cloud technology advances and matures, many countries use data, advanced communication, and computing technology to accelerate the smart development of infrastructures, moving from traditional, basic information technology structures to cloud computing. The development and application of cloud computing not only raises efficiency and lowers costs but also increases the quality and flexibility of public service systems. The "Cloud Infrastructure for Public Network Services and Computing Strengthening Plan (2021-2025)," developed under the Executive Yuan-approved "Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program – Digital Infrastructure" builds a public service internet exchange point. It consolidates the Taiwan Academic Network (TANet), government service network (GSN), Taiwan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN), and Academia Sinica Network (ASNet), supporting the migration of government services related to the public’s everyday life, finances and taxes, agriculture, arts and culture, and construction to the public cloud. The public cloud provides flexibility for resources in demand to be expanded and ensures services are not interrupted, enhancing the public’s user experience, government online service tenacity, and government cloud service quality.
Strategies for promoting the "Cloud Infrastructure for Public Network Services and Computing Strengthening Plan" include:
- Build a public service internet exchange point
Consolidate the government’s four major public service networks across the Internet, improve GSN bandwidth and information security measures, and reinforce public service resilience and quality. - Optimize government digital services and cloud environment
Adjust and optimize structures and functions of key public service systems defined by ministries, migrate those public service systems to public cloud environments, and strengthen system backup and flexible operations. - Enhance TANet cloud service quality
Optimize the transfer efficiency and usability of regional education network centers, implement Content Delivery Networks (CDN), and reinforce TANet service resilience and long-distance teaching resource service quality.
